Thank You Veterans

Earlier today I stumbled across a friend's blog, a friend who I haven't seen since high school. As I was reading his post about Veterans Day and about the time he served in Iraq, I realized that I had no idea he was a veteran, I had no idea he'd served in Iraq. Another friend from High School enlisted before we graduated, months if not days before the war we now call Desert Storm was declared. Another friend's husband is an active Marine and was just called for his third tour of duty.

My grandfather, who will be 90 in May, was recently invited by the Honor Flight Network, an organization that takes veterans to Washington D.C for a day. The nonprofit network lives off donations but doesn't allow donations from veterans. How amazing would it have been to have been a fly on the wall during that flight from Casper, WY to Washington National as those World War II veterans reminissed about their time at war and talked to each other as if they'd been friends forever. To see the reaction as they walked around the WWII monument — a monument to honor them. I have not yet seen my grandfather since his 24 hours at the nations capital, I'm sure it was an amazing day. I can't wait to hear his stories about the experience he had as he was honored as a World War II vet.

Today is a day to remember those who have fallen, a day to be proud of all those who have served. Today is a day to thank all who have served and will serve.
