Portfolio now online

I'm happy to report that I have been somewhat productive over my summer break. I finished my online portfolio and blog. I'm always looking for constructive feedback let me know what you think of the new site.

April Showers Bring May Snow!

Or so they say! Here is a picture of what Quent and I woke up too today. I actually waited until the snow started to melt just a bit and the sun came up because I knew with a break in the clouds (finally) that there would be blue sky just waiting to be captured by my photography skills. I should mention that there was a couple inches of snow on our yard and on the green hill in front of the snow capped trees. But I wanted the blue sky in the pictures so I had to sacrifice something for the picture.



Quent and I have been plugging along, I've been trying to fly through school although it is going to take a couple more months for me to finish. Quent had a small accident on Friday involving a ladder and the fish waste pond. Needless to say he's a little sore on the backside but is able to get around better than Friday night.

We have solved the mystery of the lone deer living in our yard. It appears our friend Fred made it through the winter and remembered the sweet treats he found in our yard last fall. With the 60 plus deer that seem to feast in the alfalfa field not one of them has come into our yard, except for one. He topped off the hollyhocks again last night and I'm not really pleased about it.

We spent yesterday hanging out with my parents and Ricky and Ashley. My dad came up to look at the shocks on the Jeep as I was told last week they needed replaced. Apparently they don't. After Rick and my dad crawled around the shop floor under my Jeep is was determined that we don't need to replace them at least for now but I do need to get an alignment and soon.

The night was capped off with tasty feast at our favorite Mexican restaurant (in Brigham City, not our all-time favorite but the close) and a rather competitive game of Phase 10.

Basic Video Complete!

For my basic video class I had to make three videos for the final. The videos had to be completed in movie maker which is the most basic video maker availble. (It comes installed with windows.) Here are the three videos I completed for class.

Photoshop Final

I used the three previously posted pictures for my final in my restoration and retouching class as well as this photo of my grandparents. This photo was taken on their wedding day, May 30, 1976. I took the powerline out of the photo as well as cleaned up the dust/scratches from years of being in a drawer at my mom's house. I also softened the photo just a bit to make it look more like a portrait rather than a snapshot. (to see a larger version of the photo click on the photo)



School Update: I am getting closer to being finished. I have taken all but one elective class and then have several core classes I need to finish up (translation...all the fun classes are just about over, all that is left is Math, Media Ethics and Law, Internet Technology (really?) and Design Principles. My goal is to be finished before I got to Vegas in July for the NBA Summer League.

Finally Finished Flash!

It's a great day...I'm finished with my flash class, YEA! Although Flash has way more to offer than I can currently comprehend I have mastered the foundation to flash and can make random computer animations.

The final for the class consisted of creating a personal portfolio website and I've finished it (hopefully with all the right elements) and will be able to turn it in today for a grade. (I'm waiting for my professor to get back from lunch so he can look at it.)

In the video section of the website there is a sneak preview of the video I am doing for my grandfather's 90th birthday celebration (that he doesn't know about) I trust that my grandma won't stumble upon this with my grandpa around.

Another Project

Back in school less than a week and I've finished another class and am working on the final. I haven't had my final project graded yet, I'll do that next week but I wanted to post the project to get some feedback from my friends and family.

The assignment was to create a website for an extended family, I choose mine because I had easy access to photos etc. The website should include news, notes and other information that will help keep the family in touch. Here is a link to the current project: Keeping Up With The Edman Family.

The background was designed to fit a 1024 vs 768 resolution monitor. I am thinking about changing the background as I'm not sure I like it on a higher resolution monitor. Any and all feedback would be great.

School Update

I have been asked several times what project I'm working on at school. Well I have finally finished my html final. Here is a link to the website I created Look Look Through My Lens.

The class took much longer than I had anticipated due especially because I completed four classes in two months and this one took two months to complete. With that said we had several "school breaks" and I took several days off while my older brother was in town.

I'm starting my next web authoring class and hopefully this one will go much faster than the last one.

School Projects

Here are a few more of the projects I've been working on at school. I have already completed three of the classes required for the program. I am really enjoying learning more about programs that I already had a basic knowledge of. I started the fourth class today and will probably take the final on Tuesday. (The class is Microsoft Publisher and I have been using it for years, no need to buy the book and go through all the assignments.) As you may have picked up in an early post, Steve was unable to attend our family picture session in June as he had the swine flu. Here are a couple of pictures I edited and added him too so the family picture would be complete.

As part of the final for the illustrator class we had to design a logo for a local town. I choose to design one for Mantua. I decided to go with the less is more approach with this logo. Looking at it now, I'm not overly excited about it, but we had to use create it without clilp art or using other programs. The logo passed the test and I successfully passed the class so I'm not complaining.

And for the class I finished today, we had to create a movie poster using five photos and different techniques in Photoshop. Quent suggested I create a poster using some of the pictures we took in South America last Spring. Originally I had planned to use one of the glacier pictures as part of the poster but after I started designing it and using the penguins, the glaciers just didn't seem to have a place in the poster.

Did Someone Say School?

It's true, I did say school! With the support of my great husband, I've returned to school. I am currently working on a media design/graphic design certificate from Brigerland Applied Technology School. The main campus is in Logan and I am going to the satellite campus in Brigham City.

I go to school for 6.5 hours a day Monday-Friday. The program I am in is open entry, open exit and moves at your own pace. My first class was scheduled to take 90 class hours and it took me just under 18 hours to complete. I should be finished with the program by next June.

Don't be surprised if you don't see a few of my final projects posted on the web. The first class final had me make a slide show of which I used family pictures that were recently taken. (Don't be alarmed that my brother-in-law Steve is not in the picture, Nicole is still happily married, he had the swine-flu and was unable to make it to the park.)

This is part one of the first final, basically it was on photo placement. These are the pictures of the red tailed hawk I took in February. The three smaller pictures were placed and the larger hawk was clipped from the original picture and placed on a new backdrop (one that was a bit more exciting). Part two of the final was to create a slide show. Not exactly sure why Nicole's family is the top slide...but it is what it is. (PS..due to file size restrictions, there is not sound to the video.)
