Fun in the Snow!

We had a early snow storm this week and had just enough snow to cover the ground, ice up the driveway and of course play with the kids in the snow.  Joe and Joy had to run some errands in Logan so they dropped off the kids on their way through so that they didn't have too spend anymore time in the car than they needed too.

Uncle Quent got out the sleds and pulled the kids in the yard.  There wasn't enough snow or ice on our sledding hill so the kids had to settle for playing in the snow with Uncle Quent.

Did someone order snow?

Memorial Day always means camping with my family.  We've camped all over the state of Utah and this year the camping trip was at the Box Elder Campground, in Mantua (convenient for me).  We had a great time Friday night fixing dinner, setting up camp and hanging out around the camp fire.  Saturday we went fishing, four-wheeling, and hung out at camp.  Saturday night we made dutch oven pizzas, it was really fun to see all the dutch ovens all lined up.  We had dutch oven cobbler to top off Saturday night.  The rain started Saturday night about 9 p.m. and didn't stop.

Unfortunately we woke up to snow Sunday morning and it really packed a punch, there was so much water in an already saturated ground that the mud was swishy and too messy to continue camping.  We broke camp Sunday morning instead of Monday morning.

Grandma was in town for the camping trip and she stayed at my house instead of a tent over at the campground.  Everyone went home Sunday afternoon, my parents stayed at my house with grandma.  My parents went home Monday night.   It was a fun weekend despite the snow.

Snow Snow Snow

It rained all day in Garland, Quent told me that it was snowing in Mantua and that the snow was sticking to the grass.  What he failed to mention was the four inches of snow and that it was sticking to the roads as well.  I had to put the Jeep in four-wheel drive just to get home.  It's still snowing strong, another 4-6 inches expected over night.

It's Snowing!!! -- The Blizzard has hit.

For the first time in state history there is a blizzard warning across the entire state, issued for this afternoon through about noon Wednesday. I went to the grocery store this morning ahead of the crazy weather to finish getting everything we needed for Thanksgiving.  The storm is supposed to be over by mid-day tomorrow and our high for the next couple of days isn't supposed to get much over 20 degrees. 

Prior to the storm we had crazy winds gusting as high as 67 mph and blowing 20-30 mph most of the day.  The snow we received over the weekend was neatly redistributed all over the place.  

It started snowing here about 3:45 p.m. and hasn't stopped, it's only getting worse.  The mountains are expected to get 24-48 inches while the valley floors are expected to get 4-8 inches.  We fall somewhere in the middle of that, probably more around the 18-20 inches.  Here is a video we took about 5:30 p.m. and a few pictures.  The lighting isn't great as it was dark but it gives you an idea of how much snow we're really getting.

Snow yesterday ... Sun today

We had a bit of snow yesterday and as all the weathermen in Salt Lake reported it's the latest the Salt Lake International Airport has had any measurable snow. Well as luck would have it, Mantua didn't get snow. For once, the rest of the state had a little snow but we just had rain. It snowed on Willard Peak (see below) and it snowed in Cache Valley but our flowers were saved from the freeze.

The picture of Willard Peak was taken at about 2 p.m. by 2:15 p.m. it was raining and gray skies. Guess I got lucky with the camera yesterday.

April Showers Bring May Snow!

Or so they say! Here is a picture of what Quent and I woke up too today. I actually waited until the snow started to melt just a bit and the sun came up because I knew with a break in the clouds (finally) that there would be blue sky just waiting to be captured by my photography skills. I should mention that there was a couple inches of snow on our yard and on the green hill in front of the snow capped trees. But I wanted the blue sky in the pictures so I had to sacrifice something for the picture.



Quent and I have been plugging along, I've been trying to fly through school although it is going to take a couple more months for me to finish. Quent had a small accident on Friday involving a ladder and the fish waste pond. Needless to say he's a little sore on the backside but is able to get around better than Friday night.

We have solved the mystery of the lone deer living in our yard. It appears our friend Fred made it through the winter and remembered the sweet treats he found in our yard last fall. With the 60 plus deer that seem to feast in the alfalfa field not one of them has come into our yard, except for one. He topped off the hollyhocks again last night and I'm not really pleased about it.

We spent yesterday hanging out with my parents and Ricky and Ashley. My dad came up to look at the shocks on the Jeep as I was told last week they needed replaced. Apparently they don't. After Rick and my dad crawled around the shop floor under my Jeep is was determined that we don't need to replace them at least for now but I do need to get an alignment and soon.

The night was capped off with tasty feast at our favorite Mexican restaurant (in Brigham City, not our all-time favorite but the close) and a rather competitive game of Phase 10.
