Whack-A-Mole and Other Random Stuff

Quent's reenactment of playing Whack-a-Mole.

By all accounts last night was pretty entertaining! Right after dinner I looked out our front window and saw a little furry thing running across the driveway and thought it was a mouse but it was too furry to be a mouse and slightly larger than most mice I've seen in the area. (The joys of living in the mountains.)

I told Quent about it as the little thing ran into the front lawn and he immediately went outside to investigate. As I watched him get closer to the small little creature it didn't run away like you think it would have.

Now think back to your days as a kid playing arcade games at Chuck E Cheese, the mall or any amusement park. Remember Whack-A-Mole? The fun game in which you took a hammer and whacked the mole as it popped out of the hole? Now I take you to my front lawn and Quent playing Whack-A-Mole with a real live mole and his foot. (Gross I know)

The best part of Quent's version of the game is that it didn't take a quarter to play (yes video games were just a quarter back in the day) and the furry little creature won't be digging in my yard.

Spring has sprung in the mountains and I have daffodils and tulips to prove it. Although we have "dwarf" daffodils and tulips as it warmed up long enough to get the flowers to start growing and then we had several nights of snow and freezing temperatures that stunted the growth of our flowers. None-the-less they are bright yellow and red and are a fun touch of color to our drab lawn that hasn't greened up.

***Photo disclaimer*** it was much to dark outside to be taking pictures of Quent or of the flowers so they are a bit dark and grainy.

The flowers had a nice dusting of snow on them this morning. The pine trees up on the mountain were covered with snow, a truely beautiful site with the blue sky and the sun just starting to peak over the mountain (if I had been thinking I would have been late for school and gone back inside and grabbed the camera). The only problem with this morning's beautiful site? It's April 13th, not January 13th. I love snow but i'm so over it, it's time for spring, and more importantly it's time for flip-flops. Please mother nature, don't tease us with 70 degree days one day and snow the next. Lets leave winter behind us and embrace spring!
